My Beef with JIRA

For the past week, my life has been filled with JIRA. It’s a powerful project management and customer lifecycle tool that can be manipulated in a million ways with plugins.

Here is why I’m drinking some serious haterade:

Configuring JIRA is a nightmare. They have this pattern of making you jump through 4 or 5 abstract hoops before you accomplish any task.

For example, if I want to automatically populate a field, I need to create a workflow. Then I need to activate it. But if I want to activate it, I first need to ensure that the workflow is associated with a scheme and that that scheme is associated with a project.

How dumb is that.

And how cool could it be if they at least walked you through all these steps instead of having no selectable action that assures you there’s a way to reach your goal?
